Victoria Beckham is keepin’ it reel after tests found a dangerously high level of toxic mercury in her system.
The former Spice Girl, 46, learned the harsh consequences of her mostly fish diet during a stay last year at the posh Lanserhof health spa in Germany, the Sun reported.
Too much mercury in the system causes depression, irritability, depression, memory loss and numbness, according to healthline.com. Mercury poisoning can lead to uncontrollable tremors, blindness, kidney failure and even death.
“Victoria had off the scale levels of mercury,” a source told the news outlet. “So doctors gave her a liver flush to help rid the body of toxins.”
Beckham, now a fashion designer, is still eating lots of fish, but cut down on swordfish and tuna, which both are high in the toxic methylmercury.
“She feels brilliant and is as lean and fit as ever,” the source said.
This week, rocker Robbie Williams told Britain’s Radio X network that he has been diagnosed with mercury poisoning — the upshot of his pescatarian diet.
“I was eating fish twice a day and I’ve got the highest mercury poisoning the doctor has ever seen,” he said.
