President Trump met with Vietnam’s leader Wednesday morning local time in Hanoi — and praised the country as a “thriving” nation ahead of his historic summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Trump arrived at the presidential palace at about 11 a.m. local time and posed for photos with President Nguyễn Phú Trọng in front of a bust of Ho Chi Minh.

About an hour and half before their meeting, Trump tweeted that North Korea could enjoy the same economic success as Vietnam — if they agree to denuclearize.“Vietnam is thriving like few places on earth. North Korea would be the same, and very quickly, if it would denuclearize,” Trump wrote.

“The potential is AWESOME, a great opportunity, like almost none other in history, for my friend Kim Jong Un. We will know fairly soon – Very Interesting!” he added.

Trump will meet one-on-one with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for about 20 minutes later Wednesday during the second historic summit between the two world leaders.
