Idris Elba hosted SNL over the weekend, a difficult job following a nearly perfect episode with John Mulaney the week prior. Elba was up for the task, though, visibly giddy to be hosting for the first time and having a lot of fun with a variety of oddball characters.
After a pretty damn good cold open spoofing last week’s now-infamous R. Kelly interview (featuring Kenan Thompson and Leslie Jones as R. Kelly and Gayle King, respectively), Elba took the stage for an earnest monologue revisiting how far he’s come since his bouncer gig at Caroline’s on Broadway years ago.
From there, the show went on to parody Woke Film Twitter, the Internet meme “Momo”, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop (featuring a real-life Gwyneth Paltrow). However, one of the less assuming sketches of the night provided some of the biggest laughs.
The premise: corporate PowerPoint training. The kicker: Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant as kooky receptionists Henrietta and Nan, who have seemingly…never used a computer in their lives.
