Laughs are usually the last thing you want to hear while your clothes are off, but a new study in the Journal of Research in Personality might have you chasing chuckles in the buff.
While just about everyone says they want a lover with a “good sense of humor,” psychologists at the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg in Germany have pinpointed the comic quality that matters most for sexiness: self-deprecating humor.
Using an online survey, the researchers individually polled each half of 154 heterosexual couples and asked the mates about their comedic preferences, sexual chemistry, frequency of arguments and overall happiness in the relationship. As it turns out, people who enjoy making fun of themselves, or just being laughed at in general (a trait known as gelotophilia), also have more fun in the sack. The correlation was especially strong for women.
