Democrat Kyrsten Sinema has beaten Republican opponent Martha McSally in the race for an open Senate seat in Arizona.Sinema was finally declared the winner of the contest on Monday after vote tallies came in from Maricopa County.
McSally posted a gracious concession video on Twitter — congratulating Sinema for her win.“I wish her success,” McSally wrote about her opponent.
“I’m grateful to all those who supported me in this journey. I’m inspired by Arizonans’ spirit and our state’s best days are ahead of us.”The results in the closely contested race trickled in throughout the week after last Tuesday’s Election Day.
Sinema extended her lead on McSally as the votes were counted over the weekend.The tally on Monday night was Sinema with 49.7 percent of the vote to McSally’s 48 percent.
