Congressional leaders unveiled a bill on Monday that would extend government funding for two weeks beyond Friday’s deadline. The short-term spending measure would provide cash for the federal government until Dec. 21, preventing a messy budget battle as Capitol Hill mourns the death of President George H.W. Bush.
Most of the full spending deal has been ironed out, according to Politico, but President Trump needs to agree with Democrats on the final bill.
The president has demanded $5 billion in funds for awall across the Southern border with Mexico. The demand has raised the prospects of a possible government shutdown beyond the deadline.
Trump’s planned meeting with Sen. Chuck Schumer and House Democrat Nancy Pelosi has also been delayed to next week.
