Miley Cyrus makes her return to acting in a role that hits close to home for the household name.
In a new episode of Netflix’s “Black Mirror,” which launches its fifth season Wednesday, the former “Hannah Montana” actress plays manufactured pop star Ashley O, who launches a robot called “Ashley, Too,” making herself a literal household figure.
Behind her pink-haired, anime-esque persona, Ashley struggles with her fame, making a few enemies along the way. When she slips into a coma after being poisoned by her jealous aunt (Susan Pourfar), her consciousness is transported into one of her fans’ robot dolls.
In one scene from the episode titled “Rachel, Jack and Ashley, Too,” Ashley appears looking a lot more like the pop star who plays her.
In an apparent rejection of her bubblegum alter ego, Ashley is seen performing the 1989 Nine Inch Nails hit “Head Like a Hole” in a raucous rock club — and fans of Cyrus on social media are loving the musical mash-up.
