At the 2019 New York International Auto Show — taking place at the Javits Center through Sunday — car shoppers can check out the latest from Toyota, Lincoln and Hyundai, among others .
But there’s plenty of fun to be had even if you’re not in the market: among the nearly 1,000 vehicles on display are some unfathomably fast supercars, breathtakingly expensive beauties and crazy-cool tech. Here are some of the most dazzling stars of the show.
When it was reported that Swedish automaker Koenigsegg might finally take part in the 24-hour Le Mans race in 2020, car geeks freaked out. After all, these are some of the fastest speedsters in the world. Making its North American debut at the New York International Auto Show, the brand’s Jesko — a hypercar, meaning it boasts ultra-light construction (in this case, a carbon-fiber chassis) — is said to be capable of 300 mph.
Powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 engine that cranks out 1600 horsepower, it’s equipped with an unusual nine-speed, seven-clutch gearbox. The brainchild behind the $3 million Jesko is Christian von Koenigsegg, who went from washing cars to producing them. And he has already sold out the entire 125-edition limited run of his latest.
